*Percent time:* 11% for Summer; 33%-100% for Semester and AY
appointments

*Position description*
The Department of Rhetoric is a leading center for
interdisciplinary research and teaching in the humanities and
social sciences, committed to the study of rhetorical traditions
from the classical to the contemporary eras.
The department invites applications for a pool of qualified
temporary instructors to teach undergraduate courses, should a need
arise, in any of the following possible areas: Environmental
Humanities; Gender and Sexuality; Rhetoric of Visual Culture, Media
and/or Literature; Critical Theory; Rhetoric of Law; Rhetoric of
Religion; Politics and Rhetoric of Political Theory; Reading and
Composition.
General duties: in addition to teaching responsibilities, general
duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising
students, preparing course materials (e.g.., syllabus), and
interacting with students outside of class time via email and
campus web-based course resources.
*Qualifications*
*Basic qualifications* (required at time of application)
Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at the
time of application.
*Additional qualifications* (required at time of start)
Completed PhD, JD, or equivalent international degree.
For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal
permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa
that allows employment) is required by the start date of the
position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work
permit.
*Preferred qualifications*
* PhD, JD, or equivalent degree, in the humanities or humanistic
social sciences, with
emphasis on interdisciplinary and theoretical approaches.
* Experience teaching at the college level in the U.S.
* If hired to teach Reading & Composition, demonstrated experience
teaching reading
and writing in English.
* Potential for successful advising and mentoring of students.
* Potential for program coordination and curriculum
development.
