GHD has an exciting opportunity for Water Resource Engineer based out of our Eureka, CA office. As a Water Resource Engineer, you will have the opportunity to focus on various areas of expertise including groundwater assessments and modeling, water resources, riverine and underground system hydrology and hydraulics, stormwater and flood management, engineering research, GIS analyses, design plans, specification writing and construction cost estimating.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as task manager, maintaining task/project budgets and schedules
  • Preparing technical reports
  • Analyzing various types of groundwater, climate, surface water, stormwater and water quality data
  • Developing plans, specifications and cost estimates (PS&E)
  • Ability to conduct field work and collect data related to drilling, sampling and construction observations

The ideal candidate would have the following experience/skill set:

  • Interest in groundwater, stormwater and water resources management
  • Experience with engineering and design of water resources related projects
  • Experience in developing project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Proven skills in GIS applications; AutoCAD experience a plus
  • Strong technical writing skills; Grant and proposal writing experience, a plus
  • Must be able to work on multiple assignments simultaneously; and have strong organizational, problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Expertise using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and other relevant software; Visual Basic and Avenue programing a plus
  • Client management experience a plus
  • Proven experience preparing PS&E packages
  • Geotechnical engineering and/or groundwater sampling experience a plus
  • Experience with various groundwater modeling platforms for MODFLOW, MT3D, RT3D, PEST, SEEP/W, HYRDUS 3D and others a plus.
  • Experience with various surface water and stormwater modeling platforms: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-SSP, EPA-SWMM a plus.
  • Professional Engineer license in California a plus, but not required
  • Professional Geology license in California a plus, but not required


  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental preferred) and/or Hydrogeology/Geology; degrees in both engineering and geology a plus
  • 3+ years of experience of applied knowledge in planning, engineering and hydrogeology
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities to work both within a team and independently
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new software programs
  • Must be able to complete occasional field work requirements including supervising drillers, groundwater soil and gas sampling, construction observations
