Director Role Overview: The Physiatrist/Amputee Medical Director
provides administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership to
ensure the achievement of clinical, research, and educational goals
in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a
special focus on amputee care. Reporting to the Chief of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, the Medical Director serves as
a key clinical leader within the medical center. Clinical
Leadership: - Oversee the delivery of comprehensive rehabilitation
and amputee care services, including outpatient and inpatient care.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the rehabilitation
team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
Veteran-Centered Care: - Deliver high-quality, patient-centered
rehabilitation care with an emphasis on functional improvement,
health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and the
management of complex physical disabilities. - Promote shared
decision-making with veterans and their families to achieve optimal
health outcomes. Administrative Duties: - Implement and oversee
policies and procedures to ensure high standards of care within the
Rehabilitation and Amputee Care Section. - Manage the operational
aspects of the section, including staffing, budget, and resource
allocation. Quality Improvement: - Participate in continuous
quality improvement initiatives and projects. - Utilize various
quality measurement tools to monitor and improve clinical
performance and patient outcomes. Educational and Research
Activities: - Support and contribute to the educational mission by
mentoring and providing guidance to residents, fellows, and medical
students. - Encourage and engage in research activities to advance
the field of rehabilitation medicine and amputee care. Healthcare
Coordination: - Collaborate with other healthcare providers to
develop individualized treatment plans for veterans. - Coordinate
care involving specialty services and ensure comprehensive
healthcare delivery. Use of Technology: - Utilize the VA's
electronic medical record system for documentation, ordering of
tests, and communication with patients and healthcare team members.
