Job Description:
The Director of Studies oversees and coordinates all operational
aspects of the School's academic program, ensuring that teachers
and students thrive in an academic environment of integrity,
excellence, and complete alignment with the mission and goals of
St. Paul's School. Reporting to and working closely with the Dean
of Academic Affairs, the Director of Studies oversees student and
faculty scheduling and class assignments; the creation of the
student planner; and communication of all operational deadlines,
special events, and critical schedule notes ( special program
days). As a highly-visible academic leader, the Director of Studies
is a respected teacher and colleague and a high-capacity,
principled professional whose life and professional experience
reflect personal and professional intellectual strengths and
curiosity; personal traits of empathy and understanding; and great
skills with collaboration, problem-solving, patience, and
positivity.The Director of Studies serves as a member of the
Academic Department Heads, the Studies Committee, the Calendar
Committee, the Student Support Team, the Student Review Committee,
and the Board of Trustees' Education and Student Life Committee.
The Director of Studies works closely with the Registrar and other
members of the Academic Office staff to meet the needs to students,
teachers, and parents. The Director of Studies also works closely
with the College Advising department regarding course selection and
student advising on academic matters.The Director of Studies will
teach one or two academic classes, serve as a house adviser, coach
one season, and perform other faculty duties as assigned. This
position is considered an administrative position and requires work
during the summer and school vacations.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
INCLUDE:
- primary responsibility for the smooth operations of the
academic program and facilities, from enrollment in courses and
academic scheduling to classroom assignments;
- primary responsibility for communicating with new students,
returning students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding course
assignments, grades, teacher comments, and adviser letters;
academic policies and procedures; and schedule and calendar
events;
- with the Dean of Student Support, coordination of student
learning needs and supports, including study hall assignments.
- working with the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Dean of
Faculty in guiding the development and implementation of an
outstanding curriculum, including the development of modes of
assessment, grading, tutoring, and support to promote excellence in
our students' experience;
- working with the Dean of Academic Affairs to create, implement,
and supervise academic review practices (assessment of teachers,
classes, course offerings, departments, department chairs, and
other academic program options) to promote best practices,
including visits to other schools and internal assessment;
- with the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Faculty, and the
Director of Academic Technology, responsibility for the orientation
and on-boarding of new faculty and for faculty support in the
operations of the various learning management platforms.
- with the Dean of Academic Affairs, responsibility for the
integrity of academic record-keeping and policies regarding grading
policies, standards, and communication, as well as records
retention and access;
- with the Dean of Academic Affairs, designing and implementing
data collection for use in analyzing trends in student performance
and experience;
- writing reports for and presenting to the Board of Trustees and
other constituencies as necessary; attending Board of Trustees
meetings and participating in strategic planning and other Board
initiatives;
- with the Academic Dean, responsibility for planning and
executing academic ceremonies and events ( graduation, awards
ceremonies, etc.)St. Paul's is a completely residential,

-EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- 5+ years of faculty teaching experience or experience in
academic environments, preferably with administrative experience as
an academic department head or Dean;
- demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusivity, and justice in

- demonstrated ability to collaborate and organize colleagues
around practical and strategic goals; to work independently, set
timelines, and hold self and others accountable for productive,
timely processes and outcomes;

as teaching and faculty responsibilities;
