Overview Pacific Gas and Electric's Aviation Services department is
focused on ensuring safe and reliable aviation services to all
company functional area partners. The Aviation Services department
resides within the Shared Services functional area. - Aviation
Services provides a full range of services operating fixed wing,
helicopter, and uncrewed aerial systems throughout the service
territory to safely and efficiently meet company objectives.
Position Summary This position supports Aviation Services on a
variety of Helicopter, Fixed Wing and Uncrewed Aerial Systems
operations and safety programs. The Principal - Aviation Safety
Specialist will work closely with the Aviation Safety Program
Manager on all activities in supporting the development, execution
and continuous evaluation and improvement of the Aviation Services
Safety Management System (SMS). PG&E is providing the salary
range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this
position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is
specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an
individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not
limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications,
experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
A reasonable salary range is: Bay Area Minimum: $136,000 Bay Area
Maximum: $232,000 &/OR California Minimum: $129,000 California
Maximum: $220,000 Job Responsibilities
- Works with various functional areas and groups on incident/Near
Hit follow-up, conducts and provides support for aviation safety
investigations on all equipment operated by the company and
contractors
- Conducts and leads investigations, from initiation through
completion, as directed on selected safety reports submitted by
coworkers.
- Assists in maintaining accident and incident records, files,
and reports. Requires data entry and corrections to files on an as
needed basis.
- Manages all Aviation corrective action program issues related
to safety and ensures appropriate Aviation Services Safety Reports
are entered, tracked, and closed meeting quality closure
requirements.
- Develops and distributes various types of safety communications
to Aviation Services, Functional Areas/Groups and Contractors as
required.
- Supports the Aviation Services team on projects for hazard and
data analysis
- Develops required reports, conducts briefings, safety
trainings, and when directed conducts and leads quarterly safety
and semi-annual safety stand down meetings.
- Analyses technical data for trends related to hazards, events,
and occurrences.
- Fulfills the role as Safety Lead representative for Aviation
for Shared Services Safety
- Supports and responds to activations of the Aviation Emergency
Response Plan
- Leads cross functional projects or teams.
- Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced
colleagues.
- Presents findings and makes recommendations to management.
- Works with all levels of management and senior leadership
across functions to influence decisions. Qualifications Minimum:
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety, or job-related discipline or
equivalent experience
- 10 years job-related experience

- MBA or graduate degree
- Aviation Safety Certification
- Aviation Accident Investigation Certification
- Safety program management
- Job-related experience in leading and conducting causal
evaluations
- General operational knowledge in the functions of the
organization (e.g., training management, aircraft operations, air
traffic management, aerodrome operations, and maintenance
organization management)
- Knowledgeable of FAA, NTSB, and other applicable federal,
state, and local regulations related to aviation and safety
Familiar with aircraft accident investigation and reporting
- Knowledge of Safety Management System (SMS) principles and
practices
- Good analytical, organizational and project management
skills
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and able to engage
coworkers at all levels
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
internet applications
- Must be able to effectively communicate information (both
verbal and written) and be comfortable working in a fast-paced
environment with a diverse team
- 10 years aviation related work in flight operations,
maintenance, or safety
- Previous work experience in Part 91, 135 or 121 operations
- Military aviation experience
- Experience in aviation system safety management Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge/understanding of Aviation Safety Reporting/monitoring
programs (FOQA, ASAP, LOSA)
- Competency in interpreting and applying, understanding of key
safety risk indicators/factors to make better decisions related to
aviation safety
- Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode
communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique
needs of different audiences
- Knowledge of data collection, analysis, and trending of
aviation and safety data
- Knowledge of operations/field auditing/assessments and
observations
- Knowledge of aviation regulations and safety management as
needed to perform at the job level
- Knowledge of change management theories, concepts, methods,
best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job
